Kenny was tired of being told he was overweight. At his last appointment with his doctor, Kenny was told that if he continued his lifestyle of eating badly and not exercising, he would be at risk for cardiovascular disease. And he was just 23 years old! Not only was it affecting his health, but Kenny was also very timid about meeting girls. He was ashamed of his appearance and had no confidence to talk to women.

After having a conversation with his parents, Kenny decided it was time to get to work. He needed to lose weight. His parents helped him get started – his father paid for a year-long membership at the local YMCA, and his mother bought him a pair of gym sneakers and a few outfits to wear while working out.

Kenny was excited and motivated about the idea. He was picturing himself a year from now, happy and in shape – and maybe even a girlfriend on his arm! So Kenny walked into the workout center at the YMCA for the first time – and was completely overwhelmed. There was dozens of machines there, treadmills, bench presses … he wasn’t sure which ones to use. And even when he did approach several of the machines, he wasn’t sure how to use them. He needed a lot of help!

He asked the lady at the front desk if there was a personal trainer that could help him. There was, the lady told him, but it would cost $50 per hour. Kenny couldn’t afford that! So he drove home dissapointed, and told his mother about his problem. She suggested that they drive over to the bookstore and find a book that would help him get started with a workout routine.

Kenny found several different audio books on exercising, including one called Your First Time AtThe Gym – Help for Beginners. It was even on sale for $5.99! Kenny listened to it and learned which machines to use, how long to use them, and what to eat before and after your workouts. Kenny was now comftorbale and confident at the gym, and well on his way to losing weight and living a healthier, happier lifestyle!
